Education Meeting – October 21, 2019
The regular meeting of the Pavilion Central School District
Board of Education was called to order at 7:00 PM by Board President Marirose
Ethington in the high school conference room.
Board Members present: Marirose Ethington, Jeff Finch, Becky Dziekan, Kevin
Stefan, Margaret Gaston (7:01 PM), Callin Ayers-Tillotson, and Chris Jeffres
Board Members Absent:

Jeff Finch led the Pledge of Allegiance

Jeffres; seconded by Cal Ayers-Tillotson to approve agenda with additions carried
unanimously (7 votes).
** Moved by Jeff
Finch; seconded by Chris Jeffres to approve all items in the consent grouping -
Minutes: Regular BOE minutes of 9/23/19 and 10/7/19; CSE minutes of 10/3/19; Sub-CSE
minutes of 10/3/19 and 10/8/19; 504 minutes of 10/3/19; Appropriation and
Budget Status Reports for A, C & F funds as of July 2019, Treasurer’s
Reports as of July 2019; carried unanimously (7 votes).
Introduction of new staff; Katie Kruppner – Pre-K Teacher;
Ashley Sanders – Kindergarten Teacher; Brogan O’Halloran – 1st Grade
Special Education Teacher and Alayna Mlodozeniec – 3rd Grade Teacher
each introduced themselves to the Board and shared something about themselves.
The Board introduced themselves and welcomed them to the District.

Ayers-Tillotson to approve the Class of 2020 Senior Trip to Cleveland, Ohio and
Cedar Point to be held from June 12th through June 14th,

3. Transportation
Report:
** Mr. Hart,
Head Bus Driver, presented the Board with a brief report on the transportation
program, which included the number of district bus runs and the number of
students per bus transported per run. He
answered questions and the Board thanked him for the update.
4. SAVE Plan:
** Moved by Kevin Stefan, seconded
by Becky Dziekan to approve the SAVE Plan as presented for the 2019-2020 school
year; carried unanimously (7 votes).
5. School Counseling Plan:
** Moved by Jeff Finch, seconded by Peg
Gaston to approve the School Counseling Plan as presented to the Board at the
October 7, 2019 BOE meeting with the understanding that an easy to understand
plan will be made available for parents/guardians use; carried unanimously (7
votes).
6. Appointments:
** Moved by Cal Ayers-Tillotson, seconded by Becky
Dziekan upon the recommendation of the Superintendent of Schools to appoint Jim
Sattora to the positon of 7th Grade Boys Basketball Coach for the
2019-2020 school; carried unanimously (7 votes).
** Moved by Kevin Stefan, seconded by Cal
Ayers-Tillotson upon the recommendation of the Superintendent of Schools to
appoint Matt Roth to the position of 8th Grade Boys Basketball Coach
for the 2019-2020 school year; carried unanimously (7 votes).
** Moved by Peg Gaston, seconded by Jeff
Finch upon the recommendation of the Superintendent of Schools to appoint Lisa
Battista, Sean Pelkowski, Jaime Todd, and Dave Rheam as tutors for the
2019-2020 School year; carried unanimously (7 votes).
** Moved by Jeff Finch, seconded by Kevin
Stefan upon the recommendation of the Superintendent of Schools to appoint Laurie
Fischer to the position of Long-Term substitute teacher effective October 15,
2019 at the contracted rate of $192.50 per day; carried unanimously (7 votes).
7. School Pride Committee Update:
** Mr. Martelle presented the Board
with information from the School Pride committee and their progress in regards
to having the committee be more student driven, to encourage student
participation in more events and help boost school spirt. He answered questions and the Board thanked
him for the update and for his willingness to continue working on this
committee. No action required.
8. CTE Endorsement:
** Item Tabled.
9. York Shared Services Update:
** Mr. Ellison shared information with the
Board about items discussed at the recent shared services committee meeting. He
spoke of the low number of students that had expressed an interest in
cheerleading for the 2019-2020 school year.
York CSD has indicated that they are open to merging our cheerleading
teams. This will enable our students to
participate in the sport and attend competitions as a merged York/Pavilion cheerleading
squad.
** Moved by Peg Gaston, seconded by Chris
Jeffres to approve the merged York/Pavilion Cheerleading squad as presented by
Mr. Ellison; carried unanimously (7 votes).
** Mr. Ellison also spoke of the
possibility of offering indoor track to Pavilion students to participate as a
team of one with York Central.
** Moved by Cal Ayers-Tillotson, seconded
by Kevin Stefan to approve the posting for indoor track for students to
participate as a team of one with York for the 2019-2020 school year; carried
unanimously (7 votes).
Jeff Finch mentioned
a number of shared services beyond athletics. We have had one shared assembly
this fall. York will offer a
York/Pavilion SAT review class. In
addition, one York student currently attends the Pavilion Ag Program.
