BUSINESS:

1.               Dept. Head Reports: Amy Steppenbeck

**        2019-2020 BOE Elementary School Science notes:

  • Since the BOCES 4 kits have been available all the teachers have been on board with using them.  They report that all their students find them engaging, interesting and fun to use.
  • Most grade levels have started to integrate different activities into their ELA curriculum and unit development.
  • The plan is to have K-5 use 3 kits in the 2020-2021 school year.  This will ensure that all three strands (Physical, Earth/Space and Living sciences) will be taught.  Last year there were some scheduling issues and those have been resolved so the teachers have more time to use them.
  • Next year's goal is to start writing grade level assessments that will help get the students ready for the new NYS test in June 2022 (5th grade)

  • There is a lot of new information from NYS about the new assessment coming
  • As of now there will be a CBT portion that appears to be in a constructive response format.
  • Claim and support with evidence.
  • As far as a performance section that is to be determined.
