September 18, 2017 Minutes

The special meeting of the Pavilion Central School District Board of Education was called to order at 7:00 PM by Board President Marirose Ethington in the high school conference room.

 

Board members present:  Marirose Ethington, Jeff Finch, Kevin Stefan, John Bannister, Rebecca (Becky) Dziekan, Callin Ayers-Tillotson

 

Board members absent: Margaret (Peg) Gaston

 

Others present:  Kenneth Ellison, Jon Wilson, Jim Helmicki, Stacey Tallon, Donald Childs, Mary Jo Pahl

 

Others absent: Sheila Eigenbrod

 

Visitors: Four (4) per sign in log

 

APPROVE AGENDA:

**        Moved by Callin Ayers-Tillotson; seconded by Becky Dziekan to approve agenda as presented; carried unanimously (6 votes)

 

CONSENT GROUPING:

**        Moved by Jeff Finch seconded by Becky Dziekan to approve all items in the consent grouping – BOE minutes from 8/28/17; Sub CSE minutes from 9/7/17; CPSE minutes from 8/29/17; 9/7/17 and 9/12/17; carried unanimously (6 votes)

 

BUSINESS:

 

  1. Mission Statement Presentation:   

    **        Eric Weaver presented the newly created art work to display with the District Mission Statement.  The Board thanked him for creating it and is very happy with the final design.  No action necessary.

     

  2. Senior Trip Presentation:

    **        Moved by Callin Ayers-Tillotson, seconded by Kevin Stefan to approve the Class of 2018 Senior Trip to Cleveland and Cedar Point to be held from June 7th through June 10th, 2018 as shown in the below itinerary; carried unanimously (6 votes).

  3. Resignations:

**        Moved by John Bannister, seconded by Becky Dziekan to accept the letter of resignation from Brandon Brummert from the positions of Secondary Math Teacher, Boys Service League, Boys Basketball Coach and Girls Basketball Coach effective 30 days from September 5th, 2017; carried unanimously (6 votes).

 

**        Moved by Jeff Finch, seconded by John Bannister to accept the letter of resignation from Caylin DePuy from the position of Girls Basketball Coach effective immediately; carried unanimously (6 votes).

 

**        Moved by Becky Dziekan, seconded by John Bannister to accept the letter of resignation from Cathleen Worthington from the position of Teacher Aide effective 9/22/17; carried unanimously (6 votes).

 

4.         Flute Donation:

**        Moved by Callin Ayers-Tillotson, seconded by Becky Dziekan to accept the donation of a flute made to the district by Ronald and Samantha Stappenbeck with thanks; carried unanimously (6 votes).

 

5.         Approve 17-18 Attendance Policy:

**        Moved by Callin Ayers-Tillotson, seconded by John Bannister to approve the recommended changes to the Attendance Policy as presented by Jim Helmicki; carried unanimously (6 votes).

 

6.         Approve Academic Eligibility Policy:

**        Moved by Callin Ayers-Tillotson, seconded by Kevin Stefan to approve the recommended changes to the Academic Eligibility Policy as presented by Jim Helmicki; carried unanimously (6 votes).

 

7.         Audit – Corrective Action Plan:

**        Moved by Jeff Finch, seconded by John Bannister to accept the proposed corrective action plan as presented by Donald Childs; carried unanimously (6 votes).

 

8.         Policy 7680 Independent Educational Evaluations:

**        Moved by Becky Dziekan, seconded by Callin Ayers-Tillotson to approve the recommended changes to policy 7680 as presented by Stacey Tallon; carried unanimously (6 votes).

 

**        Moved by Jeff Finch, seconded by John Bannister to adjourn to executive session at 7:28 PM; carried unanimously (6 votes).

 

**        Moved by John Bannister, seconded by Becky Dziekan to return to regular session at 7:48 PM; carried unanimously (6 votes).

 

9.         Appointments:

 

**        Moved by Jeff Finch, seconded by Kevin Stefan to approve the list of tutors for the 2017-2018 school year as presented and upon recommendation of the Superintendent of Schools; carried unanimously (6 votes).

 

**        Moved by Jeff Finch, seconded by Becky Dziekan to appoint Katie Taylor to one of the three middle school play director positions at the contracted stipend amount of $1,215.00 to be split evenly between the 3 directors; carried unanimously (6 votes).

 

**        Moved by Jeff Finch, seconded by Callin Ayers-Tillotson to approve the three substitute teacher applications as presented for John Cianfrini, Laurie Fischer and Elizabeth Bolton upon recommendation of the Superintendent of Schools; carried unanimously (6 votes).

 

**        Moved by Jeff Finch, seconded by Kevin Stefan to appoint Tim Mead to a three year probationary position of Secondary Math Teacher at the salary of $45,250.00 which will be prorated based upon his official date of hire of October 18, 2017 upon recommendation of the Superintendent of Schools; carried unanimously (6 votes).

 

**        Moved by Callin Ayers-Tillotson, seconded by John Bannister to appoint Jason Long to the six month probationary cleaner position effective 10/2/17 at the starting salary of $23,000.00 which will be prorated based upon his starting date for this position.  He was also appointed to be a cleaning substitute at the starting rate of minimum wage and effective upon receipt of his fingerprint clearance upon recommendation of the Superintendent of Schools; carried unanimously (6 votes).

 

 

**        Moved by John Bannister, seconded by Kevin Stefan to appoint Tracey Klever to the six month probationary position of Teacher Aide effective 10/5/17 at the starting rate of pay of minimum wage, which will be annualized and pro-rated based upon her starting date upon recommendation of the Superintendent of Schools; carried unanimously (6 votes).
